The Department of Children and Adolescents provides general, specialized, and in some areas, superspecialized care for patients from newborn age to 19 years old, and in exceptional cases, even longer. It also includes a newborn screening laboratory with nationwide significance. The department operates within the framework of the Diabetes Center and the Obesity Center at UHKV, and is a center for growth hormone treatment.

The department has 35 beds across two units (for younger and older children), including beds reserved for lower-level intensive care. The outpatient operation consists of an acute intake clinic and 16 specialized outpatient clinics (allergology, endocrinology, diabetology, phenylketonuria, infant care, nephrology, cardiology, hypertension, rheumatology, neurology, pulmonology, psychology, obesity treatment, dietology, counseling for high-risk newborns, anthropology). The department also includes emergency unit for children and adolescents.

The department provides education in pediatrics for master's and bachelor's degree programs at the 3rd Faculty of Medicine, Charles University. In the field of general medicine, this includes teaching pediatrics in the 4th, 5th, and 6th years of both Czech and English curricula through lectures, seminars, practical training, and elective courses. Similarly, it organizes the teaching of pediatric subjects for programs in physiotherapy, nutritional therapy, dental hygiene, and general nursing. The department has five supervisors for postgraduate studies in two academic councils at the 3rd Faculty of Medicine, Charles University, and also provides pre-specialization training in pediatrics as a Type II institution (for basic and specialized training).
