professor Hugues deThé, MD, PhDDear colleagues, dear students,
We would like to invite you to next Medicine as a Science lecture. We are very glad that professor Hugues deThé, MD, PhD accepted our invitation. Professor deThé is the chair of the Cellular and Molecular Oncology Department at Collège de France. Simultaneously, he works as a medical doctor at the St. Louis Hospital in Paris. Professor’s main area of interest is linking the molecular biology of Acute Promyelocytic Leukaemia (APL) with therapeutic response.
Specifically, professor deThé was the first to observe and describe the PML/RARa gene fusion responsible for Acute Promyelocytic Leukaemia (APL). His team further studied the therapeutic targeting of the PML/RARa oncoprotein by retinoic acid and arsenic, describing in detail their role in degrading this oncoprotein. This has led to a radical shift in the treatment paradigms of APL, significantly improving the prognosis of patients diagnosed with this form of leukaemia.
Professor deThé studied Medicine and Biological sciences in Lyon, and later at Paris (Necker Hospital). Afterwards, he completed his PhD degree at the renowned Pasteur Institute. His following steps led to the French National Institute of Health and Medical Research (INSERM), where he worked as assistant professor, and later as Director of Research and Department director.
Professor deThé will join us at Syllaba’s lecture hall, on the 29th of April at 6:00 PM and talk about his research and experience in a lecture on the following topic: ‘Modelling APL pathogenesis through therapy response’.
More details about the lecture will be available on the FB page of the event.
This lecture is funded by Department of International and Public Relations of 3FM CU.
