LERU Doctoral summer school at KU Leuven 9-13 July 2018
Dear colleague,
I am contacting you with an invitation to send an outstanding doctoral student from your university to the LERU Doctoral Summer School. The DSS is an annual event aiming to provide doctoral candidates with unique professional and personal development opportunities beyond what they are generally exposed to in the course of their PhD training. By creating an exceptional and truly international, intercultural and interdisciplinary meeting of bright young minds, the DSS creates a highly stimulating learning experience which is of long lasting value to the participants’ future careers. Participants are LERU university PhD candidates who are selected on the basis of a university-wide competition. The 2018 DSS will be the ninth edition, and it has been a prestigious and successful event every year.
The LERU doctoral summer school, which will take place at the KU Leuven on 9-13 July 2018, will have as a theme “The Global Society - The Importance of Interdisciplinary Collaboration to Tackle Societal Challenges”. We are pleased that the KU Leuven is supporting the CE7 partnership by reserving a few spots for doctoral students at CE7 universities, kindly waiving the tuition fee (EUR 500) for CE7 students*.
If your university wishes to participate, we ask that you select a suitable and interested candidate. Please send the applicant’s name, M/F, discipline, thesis title or area of specialisation, and the applicant’s CV or letter or motivational statement to
by 6 April 2018.
Applications are limited to one doctoral student per university.
*The waived tuition fee includes course materials, accommodation for five nights (8 to 13 July), meals and transportation within Leuven. Participants will have to cover travel to and from Leuven, as well as any additional social activities undertaken.
In the meantime, if you have any further questions, do not hesitate to contact me (
